What is the zener for? Its not needed! But a 1kOhm in series to 200nF would make it safer while power on.

Becosebecause it is designed to sense inputs with SSR, and keep these in a voltage cut

Oh boy, "SSR"???? Please take some time in future and write it down. WHAT IS SSR?

Put a switch between 60hz and capacitor. Slow the simulation and close the switch at different points of the wave, with some luck you will see why the SSR got nuked.

If this specific circuit is supposed to convert AC to DC, then shouldn't the waveform of the output be constant, (as in a flat strait line when displayed on an oscilloscope) ...???

I see. Power and load should be done with a single rectifier. Problem is the extra voltage drop which is not available for the load. And will cause extra power dissipation over zener. I would recommend an additional second rectifier and optocoupler. Never mind.
