Simple Battery Backup

I wanted a simple battery backup for my Ebay YSZ-4 Digital Clock Kit to back up the wall-wart/L7805 power supply that did NOT involve an unsafe battery charging circuit.

This seems o do the trick :)

Try using 4 X 1.2 NIFE batteries

Thought about it but I don't leave any battery charging circuit unattended. It took a long search to find a simple circuit that didn't involve charging (which is not required for my use, anyway). Components fail and over-charged batteries do very, very bad things. One house fire in the middle of the night is enough for me...
