Nice circuit, maximum voltage for NE 555 is 15V.

BillyT, maximum what I have seen is 18V, but most are only 15V.

Hurz, yes this might be, the spec sheets I've seen state 15Vdc.

Problem with voltages above 15V you do not get anything specified. Its not wrong to run the chip at 18V but you do not get a min/max/typ on any specified value e.g. current consumption is given for 5, 10 and 15V but not for any other voltage. So if you have extrem high current draw at 18V and your product does fail any tests its your problem, because intersil doesn't promised you anything 😉

Sounds like they allow for some ripple in the power supply, no guarantees.

First of all I would like to thank you for commenting and presenting your ideas and questions here. In the circuit in question the 555 is working at its maximum voltage, according to the datasheet, practical tests can be done to ascertain the response of the circuit according to the input voltage. For those who were more interested, access the link below, a very interesting article about symmetrical source with 555.

nice circuit quite useful for opamp.

Lets see how good it is at 100ms/s. Its no good at all, 555 doesnt work on such a low impedance from high capacitance. 👎

18V positive are available, so whats needed is to generate a proper negative voltage. http://everycircuit.com/circuit/6275825619173376
