The diode is connected parallel to ac source and load resistor so the half cycle when the diode is forward biased(positive half) gets clipped. During the positive half cycle we get 0.7 v output across load due to barrier potential. So we can say that positive half gets clipped beyond 0.7 v of input voltage For circuit to function properly the load resistance should be very large say 50 times the source resistance
