First SW is for increase light and bottom SW is for reduce the light.

Issue is it burns out the capacitor on dimming. I don't know anything about mosfets to help you out.

Dimming in this manner is not recommended. The Cgs has some leakage and your MOSFET will turn off eventually

For dimming an 12v LED this is the simplest method I know. The 10k resistor is to protect the potentiometer, the 500ohm is a current limiting resistor to protect the led and the transistor is to control the current. _ _ http://everycircuit.com/circuit/6030310142377984 _ _ Remember all leds in this app are 2v and 20ma. In real life not so, each is configured by size, color, voltage, etc... An AC dimmer is best done with scr's, diacs and/or triacs.
