Except that a 2 way light switch operates 1 lamp from 2 locations.

Both sides are grounded so it's really 2 wires, but still a useful circuit.

With 3 wires you can use a single supply and you don't need the diodes.

It would be possible to make the original circuit with a single supply by using a DPDT switch to reverse the polarity of the power source.
