Diode or gates are used quite often. Main purpose of or's is input sources isolation when more than one is used to drive single input node and diode are superior isolators offering several megaohms of back impedance between inputs. When using shotky switching diodes (typicaly a BAT XX series one)voltage attenuation is also so small so is not a serious problem anymore

The only diode problem is lack of back isolating capabilities when its open biased. In other words when diode conducts it has fully bilateral characteristics. Simply forward biased diode pass AC voltage signals in both directions. This is undesired operation sometimes so in ic i found that a common gate or common base transistors are used not in diode connection but as active resistance amplifiers offering humongus ammount of output resistance in any conditions showing highly desired almost perfect unilateral behavior.
