Mosfet regulates back emf from braking brushless dc motor

Would love suggestions/input on this circuit!

I have a brushless dc motor. It is controlled by an field oriented controlled electric speed controller (type VESC). The VESC uses regenerative braking, and since I am using a power supply unit with voltage 24V, I need to dump the regenerative load. I found this circuit online, and changed it to meet my voltage (I will post link when I find it). 

The circuit uses a mosfet, and the diodes are placed just to attain correct voltage profile for simulation. 

Still don't know how to choose the correct components though. Which mosfet, braking resistor etc.
