Note if component fails in this power supply how full line 240 rms line voltage could be in circuit with no protection. This circuit is in well insulated case. When you see well insulated case consider they may be used for a reason. The capacitor 470 nF must be X2 type capacitor. Warning: transformerless power supplies provide no isolation from mains power, and are very dangerous. You must use isolation transformer whenever you want to connect anything, such as scope, DVM, or any other external equipment to the circuit. Even with isolation transformer high voltages are present, be very careful. Also, voltage divider resistors could be added at right of circuit for more voltage stability.

A 470millifarad current limiting capacitor? Are you crazy or something? Where would you even find a 470millifarad 400V unpolarised cap?

Try Mouser Electronics at: https://www.mouser.com/Passive-Components/Capacitors/_/N-5g7r?Keyword=0.47+F&FS=True. Or Google 0.47 F Capacitive Power Supplies.

Unpolarized. Thats your key word.

Smart one, the cap you linked is rated for 750VAC and has a capacitence of .47uF not F. Pay more attention next time. The datasheet says the maximum capacitance for the cap models is 24uF. Definately not .47F

The article showed 0.47 F for this device so drawing may be wrong or manufacture has own device.

I bought several thousand of this wonder caps now I'm rich

@lmccoig, what you probably mean is a 470nF or 0.47uF this would be a standard capacitance dropper supply. Not more and also not much less

Perhaps circuit drawing was wrong value listed.

I rechecked the circuit information. The capacitive dropper should lower circuit to around 24 volts D.C. With capacitor load no value changes circuit.

I made changes to circuit to reach 24 volt D.C. voltage drop.

The Natur of voltage divider, your capacitor and 365 Ohm resistor at 50Hz and some math
