Simplest guitar pedal

This circuit shows how a simple distortion guitar pedal works. It's just two diodes that cut off the peaks of the signal. The input signal is +/- 2V, which is more than what you get out from a guitar. So you would need an opamp to amplify the input signal. And an opamp on the output to separate it from the following stages.

It might be possible to get this to work using Schottky Diodes and a resistor of 100K or more
