I have a question for the more skilled chemists. I'm looking to make a Ferric Sulfide for etching boards, and I've gotten to the conclusion that I'd need sulfuric acid to make it. By dissolving ferric nails in diluted sulfuric acid and adding hydrogen peroxide I'll get Ferric Sulfide. All the ingredients can be bought from thw drugstore, except the sulfuric acid. Now the question is, from where can i get that? Will draining the fluid from a car battery do it, or is the concentration low? Are there any other etching solutions, that'll do the trick?

Yes, you can concentrate it by boiling it until white fumes appear.

A car battery consists of 38% sulfuric acid and 62% water. Purchasing sulphuric acid can be challenging. International commerce of sulfuric acid is controlled under the United Nations Convention Against Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances, 1988, which lists sulfuric acid under Table II of the convention as a chemical frequently used in the illicit manufacture of narcotic drugs or psychotropic substances.

Thebugger wants to etch pc boards, why bringing this shit up. Thebugger, also you can use Ferric chloride and you can use the nails and Muriatic acid.

The easiest way to make ferric sulfide is to "burn" 1mol of iron (56g) with 1mol of sulfur (32g) in form of a very thin pounder. This is safer than playing with sulfuric acid, but always be carefull. With burn i mean to heat them inside a steal pot at very high temperature (the reaction is very similar to combustion but instead to use oxygen you're using sulfur).

thebugger asked where he could purchase sulphuric acid, no one seems to know, my comment reflected on the challenges purchasing highly concentrated sulphuric acid that's why I brought it up... 😎

And I reflected about something easier, safer and cheaper than sulfuric acid

When you live in a land of restrictions on peoples freedom to obtain necessary chemicals you do what you got to do. As far as safety, thebugger has shown high intellect, I trust him to take the necessary precautions, if not we probably will see the headlines.

Look my dear fellow EC enthusiast, I am not a conspiracy theorist. What I am is a very cynical person, but there is a reason for it. you might not realize it but there is a movement for one world government. You guys in Europe are not allowed to have guns. They are trying to take ours away, slowly they use every excuse the get the chew away at our 2nd Amdt rights. The reason to take away guns for people is obvious, you can not rebel against the Gvt without guns. Politicians they don't give a f-shit about people, they care about their little power to force others to do as they please, case in point GB or CC whatever you want to call it today. CC is just an excuse to deprive people of their property to redistribute worlwide. Putin, Islamic radicals, China, and North Korea is making this one world order a little more difficult to achieve.

In europe we can get guns after a training. Then the one world governement is impossible to make, but please can we stop with that? I only want to know if thebugger need a ferric sulfide pounder or cristals.

You asked! Now you had enough? Good luck to you! "Unawareness can be a bliss" What kind of guns you can get?
ferlop

Wait a minute, UK is part of Europe is it not? Can they get guns? What other EU member can not get guns? What kind of training you have to get?
WTFCircuit

There are different licences for what you need a gun. For example my brother has a firearms license for low calibers, my dad for has the licence for self-defense witch means you tecnically can use all kinds of gun (also a bazzoka but it is unpractical and expensive). The training are essentially lessons about how to safely use a gun.

Auto parts store buddy should be able to get the sulfuric acid. Use glass jar to hold acid. Be ready to flood with water for several minutes if acid on skin. Mixing other chemicals with it should be checked out most carefully.

And remember, solfuric acid creates a lot of heat when it touch water and more heat with hydrogen peroxyde

1st of all - WOW how much responses. I saw my answer in the first few comments. Im thinking of making hydrochloric acid by mixing salt and sulfuric acid (which I'll get from a charged car battery) and letting it bubble through some water. After having have made hydrochloric acid it's a simple matter of dissolving nails in it and adding some peroxide. Thanks for the fast response. 2nd and off topic, i really don't agree with the American politics of giving out weapons to everyone. That's a recipw for disaster. No wonder USA has the highest incarceration rate. I mean all of you are potential killers. I strongly agree with our European politic of giving weapons only after a special training has been passed. People need to know the dangers of owning a weapon and the inherent responsibilities that come with it!

First of all, guns are not given to any one, in USA we pay for what we get. ........................................................ If we want entertainment such as a movie, we pay for it, if we want to use EC, we pay for it, there is no free lunch for any one. ............................................................. if in your country you get to use or get things for free, that is a lie, some body had to work to produce what you are enjoying. .......................................................... As far as incarceration rates, what is wrong with putting criminals in jail and keeping them there? ......................................................... Guns don't kill people, people kill people with guns, knives, strangulation bats, tire irons, rocks, ETC.. ETC..ETC. .......................................................... Don't blame the guns, I never saw a gun that jumped up and killed any one. ............................................................ Since outlawing guns in UK, now it has the highest crime rate of the EU and the USA, FACT.

Okay, having the highest incarceration rate, must tell you something. If not, you all are a lost cause. Coca cola takes down ferrum. I'm not sure if it'll work on copper, but I'll give it a try.

thbugger, thebugger; a high percentage of those incarcerated are drug dealers, drug makers, drug user, all those activities are illegal in USA, unlike in some of the EU member states, guns don't kill people, people with guns rocks knives, bats and chains do. Criminals use illegal guns to commit crimes, you don't get it do you? ............................................................ Anyway, don't waste your time with coca-cola, don't be so gullible.

I said coke won't work :D and please don't try to persuade me in the justness of your system, because it's full of flaws, all over. It takes an unbiased point of view to spot them, and believe me i am unbiased.
ferlop
OK, so your system is perfect, and with no flaws, is that right? ........................................................... If I was given everything for free I to would like that system who would not? ........................................................... You don't like to pay for software, but enjoy the hell out of it and benefit from using it. Using EC is a form of entertainment, and entertainment is not cheap, Also remember that you are enslaving others when you don't pay for the goods and services. .......................................................... You got a full scholarship, good for you, but remember that some body is busting his ass to support you with that scholarship. ..........................................................

Somebody is living a hell of a life, not caring for my 10$ :D I'm not remotely talking about piracy. Let me guess, you're an American, therefore you own an Iphone, correct? Even if you don't, every other one does. And that is completely screwed up. Being enslaved by an overpriced piece of shit. Not to mention all the other flaws. Boy, you Americans have gotten pretty arrogant, not remembering, that you were us 200 years ago, and you got your country by bloodshed and murder. Please don't talk about screwed up things, because your whole system, you got yourself going, is on top of the screwed up food chain.
ferlop
OK, now we are getting somewhere, hit a nerve, Ha! ......................................................... Why owning an Iphone is screwed up. ............................................................ I see the education system in Bulgaria filled your head with propaganda and bullshit, don't worry is no different here, go ahead and enjoy your paradise, believe everything they tell you, is probably better for you. ........................................................... As far enslaving somebody when you don't pay for goods and services, means that you are benefiting from somebody's hard work and innovation without you even consider that it is wrong and not fair, yeah, I know in your country there are no piracy laws. THAT STILL DOESN'T MAKE IT RIGHT"

1. Owning an iPhone is screwed up in so many ways, i can hardly list them all. 2. No, our education, on the contrary, doesn't fill our heads with bullshit, and you should be careful makings such assumptions, seeing as how you haven't got any proof. 3. My country is against piracy, but we're very tricky when it comes down to law loopholes and I'm completely satisfied with this fact.

ferlop

Also people, notice that in Bulgaria they have anti-piracy laws now, versus a year ago, when we were told there were no such laws there, so pirates didn't have to pay for software................................................Now all they have to do is be "TRICKY". :-)
thebugger
No, there are laws against piracy, but our trackers don't take responsibility for what the users upload. They just provide the slate, so to speak, for a third party user to upload its stuff, therefore making them innocent in the face of the law. You keep paying for everything, I'll keep using everything for free :D. P.S. I guessed right about the iphone. I'm commentless there. There is literally no point of pointing out the flaws of iOS to you, because you're just another ,,blind'' american. I mean no disrespect, but seriously, if you could see yourself (not you specifically, but all of you), you'd see what i mean.

I think that iPhone is an overrated bullshit, especially because most of the money you spend goes to the apple symbol on the back .. here in Italy, I do not know if America is so.

I was going to say no more about this things, but it goes to show that once a socialist always a socialist, give me, give me, give me. .............................................................Does the inventor own his invention, or is it the COMMUNITY's?...................... ...................................................... Does the baker owns the bread or is it yours to take,or as you put it use it for free. Do you always have to take it from some one else, why in a f-ck don't you make your own bread or software or whatever.
WTFCircuit

I think the quality/price of the iPhone is very low because the quality is low (hardware and software) and the price is exaggerated, that's why I think they're bullshit.
thebugger
Yes the quality is low (both hardware and software) and the price is ungodly. I prefer android for oh, so many reasons, which I'm not gonna go into. Keep paying for everything, I'm not as gullible :D

I understand Apple products are not for everyone, Apple engineers are some of the best anywhere in the world, their products, are the best in the market, and all the other companies try to imitate their designs.............................. ............................................................. if I had limited resources, I to would feel that their prices are unreasonable, I don't own any Apple, but my family member do. I could buy an Iphone if I wanted but I am a simple man and like to save money.
thebugger
I would buy an apple if i had the resources, only to sell it and buy something else. Contrary to the common belief, they don't sell the best products, the sell the most overpriced products. How come my phone is quad core 2.5Ghz with 2Gb of ram and costs 400$ and the newest apple is dual core 1.2Ghz with 1Gb ram and costs 1000$. It's completely mind boggling for me.

Look the physical parameters of the processor are very low. They're a 2012 standard . The thing that makes them fast is the way how the iOS process the data, and specifically how it caches it. That doesn't mean though, that the physical parameters are better than most androids. The processor is still dual core and the clock frequency is still 1.2Ghz, and nothing can change that. I guess there is a slight advantage of it being 64bit, but most new phones are, so...

The hardware store offers a drain cleaner that is pure sulfuric acid, relatively inexpensive for the product. Here it is in a bottle inside of a plastic bag in case of leakage. This can be very expensive in water due to rapid formation of hydrogen bubbles, please no open flames. Not sure of the name brand but i find it aways in a black bottle.

Oops spell check error. Not very expensive, very explosive in water.

I have seen this product blow water & acid 4 meter in to the air out of a blocked drain line.
