Demonstrated here is a discrete component view of a CMOS multiplexor. There are two signals to choose from, offset by a factor of two. Use the SPDT switch to select HIGH/LOW to set the 1ms or 2ms signal as active or not via the CMOS Inverter. While the signals are not perfectly HIGH/LOW the graph demonstrates which would qualify as logical true or false. The Blue line indicates the state of the Inverter. The Green line is the output to the Inverter. Additionally the Orange and Red lines correspond to their respective signals. This is by no means a perfect or precise representation, it does however illustrate the concept of how CMOS technology is implemented within multiplexors. The benefit of seeing the technology at work within the scope of each individual component allows the viewer to better understand, and comprehend, what exactly is going on inside the chips. Credit is also given to Falstad for the inspiration behind this circuit. =)
