This circuit is used to set a range of inputs to a load, in this case, an LED. The voltage source on the left can be modified to a wide range of voltages, from 0 to around 100V. However, the arrangement of diodes limits the voltage on the high and low ends and allows the LED to continue to operate when the high or low voltage source would typically prevent the LED from operating.
