Here is a circuit from slide 14, regarding finding the Vth and Rth of a circuit.
Max power transfer in the system occurs when the Rl = Rth = 25Ohms (25% wiper position.) here the Il and ishunt are the same with the same voltage. more resistance = higher voltage, lower current. lower resistance = higher current lower voltage.
