This circuit can step down ac to about 12 volts, invert ac voltage and smooth it. Also it can deliver up 8 amps. Enjoy.

For 1A out, Input >100Watt, output ~10Watt. Were and how are the delta of 90Watt are burned? Not talking about 8 A at output!
