Voltage spot? I think you mean rated voltage.

You don't drive an LED by constant voltage. Instead, you drive an LED through constant current. An LED isn't very good at maintaining constant current, because it's operation temperature - and the current through it - changes it. You want extra components to regulate or limit the current through an LED, or it may suffer from catastrophic failure because of runaway effects.
