Square - Triangle Wave Generator

This circuit is basically an oscillator that generates to kinds of output: a square wave (green) and a triangular wave (purple) as outputs! However, the triangular wave output is 2V (approximately). One needs to change the value of the 8.87kOhm resistor (only).

Shake the circuit to begin!

Can you please explain why the left side with the polarized capacitor is needed and how it works? Thanks!
