Will prove unreliable since right hand transistor base is floating except at moment switch is pressed.

Robert_Kidd is right. Turn it on, then shake. A resistor to ground will help, but I suspect you'll have to reduce the other resistors too.

Yes, shaking it can make the lamp flicker, which likely means 100kΩ doesn't drain away the noise charge.
