This circuit simulates transmission of AC as well as DC power via same 3 phase transmission line. It superimposes DC onto AC via primary Delta and secondary Zig-Zag transformer neutral and obtains DC current at other end of line via Zig-Zag neutral of Zig-Zag-Delta transformer. It has several advantages where of of the main advantage is line is utilised to its full capacity and aslo AC stability margins are unaffected by introduction of DC power

Is this a common practice anywhere that you know of?

I'm confused. Why is there a DC source at both ends? Shouldn't you have a separate DC load as well?

No it's not used currently. Actually it is an experiment currently been studied and some researchers have verified successfully that AC and DC can be transmitted simultaneously

Actually that dc sources are used here just to generate dc current. But practically It's more like HVDC transmission system embedded in AC transmission. Left dc source will be replaced by rectifier circuit which will inject dc and right source is an inverter drawing dc power.

Well then you should just make it a 100 ohm resistor in keeping with the other phase loads. I tried it and it works just fine. I don't really see how this allows superior optimization of line usage over HVDC alone though.

I'm playing with it to. I need to clean my schematic and lay it out better. My setup utilizes a dual rail dc with positive dc on A phase, negative dc on C phase, and creating their common on B phase. This setup eliminates the current on the ground/neutral, as this described configuration would be a delta connection and only uses the ground as a earthing reference. Of course the dc configuration can be layed out numerous ways.
