Nighttime, you power up your line voltage telegraph key transmitter, you key the signal and your lights flicker, and your neighbors lights flicker, and those watching the lights of town see your section of town lights flicker.....not so good. Adjust stroke of telegraph key to as little movement that will work and add contacts (as relay) to balance switch current load when key is open. Add or subtract light bulbs in load circuit to minimize flickering.
Other loads switching on and off flickering lights can be helped by switching from load to load.
