When the potentiometer is at the bottom of its travel, the circuit outputs the input signals, when the potentiometer is at the top of its travel, the circuit outputs a wider stereo image.

The potentiometers are ganged, when both are moved to the top position, an antiphase component of the opposite channel is added to the signal, which increases the stereo width in a similar way to mid-side processing
