Has little hiccup on start, that's expected behaviour... I think :P not easy to follow so you guys gonna have to trust me that it is synchronous ;) (my last one was asynchronous) was bloody hard to get it to work around some of EC quirks an was bout to give up, but my 'ocd' wouldn't let it go!

Ocd suits up well in electronics! Good job!

So true sd3, so true!

A brief explanation of wot is it. From right to left are my tailored versions of a master/slave flipflop and 5 JK flipflops. All being driven by same clock at bottom ( hence synchronous). First ff toggles, and the jk's toggle when all the flops to the right of them are Set state. This is standard(ish) configuration for synchronous counter, can google to see a block diagram

Ha-that's neat! Sometimes when I see machines tirelessly performing some repetitive task, they remind me of something living- like an insect or what have you. This circuit made me think of those little construction guys from that old show " Fraggle Rock"..

Use 2.05V Logic gate supply lets the LEDs glow nicer ;-) You probably know the man who took his hole lifetime to calculate a few hundred years ago the digits of PI to above 100 or more digits. Today we can do that within a micro second.... so was his life useless, did he spend his time to the wrong job? .....

There isn't a human on this planet that can calculate PI in a microsecond. We can push a button on a calculator to do the math for us- but how many other brilliant minds went into making that possible? And if one day robots handle all menial tasks and we don't have to think much at all- would that then render all the great minds humanity has produced a "waste of time"?..

Thnx hurz I've ramped it up, is brighter now and drowned out the switching interference - which I thought kinda looked cool but is matter of taste

Yep sine_eyed i too often pondered about machines constantly working tirelessly. But 'tirelessly' is a human attribute, machines are no more conscious than a brick. We are just seeing the basic nature of nature, that is 'cause and effect'. Google 'conways life' when you get a chance ;)

Hurz calculating pi to 100 decimal places would give you an intimate understanding of the nature of pi. Computers unable to understand what they're calculating, they're unconscious bricks carrying out cause and effect from the initial conditions we set. So no I don't think he wasted his life in futility, that guy must of gained insight which we would never see using our computers. Must of felt rewarding to him :)

On the same breath, using formulas are like a cheat sheet for us. We in effect have become the unconscious computer carrying out rules defined by others who have actually visualised and understood what is actually happening. Formulas are mathematical representations, sometimes we should try visualise and see with our inner eye ;) there's nothing like that feeling of content when that realisation hits you an you say 'oh I get it now!'

reminds me of quantum mechanics now. we have are formulas an rules describing the behaviour on the sub-atomic level. Behaviours which defies common sense, extremely! No one can visualize what's actually happening, to understand the underlying gears making the universe work. Who knows what's happening down on that level?!? Maybe god knows :P Joking!

Yeah roops your an ok guy I think so don't sweat it. And in my eyes, you'll always be Wise King Cheato- 2nd Earl of Flashington- Noble Steward of the sacred "Islas de la Blincanas"- and rightful heir to the crooked scepter known as "Non Stablis Multaera Vibratum". Yep... };•))

gee thanks sine! i'll try my best to live up to my titles but not sure bout the last one tho...

Sure or not, the crooked sceptre has been handed down from your father's father's father's great uncle's father and finally unto thee. It can only be willed by your hand, and your hand alone!..

Cool ok then how I use this sceptre bestowed upon me? Do I hold it up in the air an shout I HAVE THE POWER like he-man an get struck by lightning? That could be lethal no?

Hmm, I think that might be just a bit showy. I don't know i'm just the jester you are the king. However this may help- a great man once told me: "Any fool can hoot and holler and shake his stick all about, shoving it into any crevice he can shove it into, but only the wisest of men who know patience will spend the the time to gain an understanding and truly know how to wield his own crooked sceptre..."
