All circuits in EC must have a ground reference point, add one. Then reduce capacitor to a sensible value, say 10uF, or even remove it. Diode will drop 0.7V and LED drops 2V so supply needs to be at least 2.7V. Add a fixed resistor in series with LED since when potentiometer is wound to one end there will be nothing to limit the current and LED will burn. Resistor value will depend on what voltage you decide to use. For 2.7V a 10 Ohm will do.

A 3V supply minimum would be better.
