Transistors can be heat sensitive indicators. Using a 2N2222 transistor at -30 or -40 °F adjust for 5 volt reading on DC Volt meter. At 212°F, expect around 2.5 volts.

The emitter degeneration resistor is limiting the heat sensing capabilities of the transistor. Other than that good job

And its not very linear. Try changing the transistor hFE from 10 to 1k and you'll see what i mean
