Because electricity needs a ground in order to Complete the circuit. Without ground the electricity will just sit. Think of it as a river flowering into the ocean when it has ground and a pond our a puddle when there is no ground.

Its because it calculates with a method where you need to have a fix potential (called node potential). Most simulators use this method to calculate :-)

It's not just a simulator thing though. As long as the right side is floating there'll be no base-emitter voltage on the bjt so it won't aĺlow collector current. Wouldn't work irl either.
