The capacitors limit the current an create a voltage divider to drop the voltage to a safe level, while the LEDs give 0.7 volt drop and need 20ma of current. in my mind 0.7v/0.020a= resistance of 35ohms x4 LEDs 140ohms. Even though 8 series capacitors can be swapped with a single 247nf cap, its something i wont do.

anyone know why theres a current spike of 100ma when i throw the switch?

Also when i stop the simulation and rewind, why is there is a extra start option called 'run ac' and when i click that it crashes?

I also realized that when you switched to the two capacitor divider, how is it possible for that single capacitor to conduct 7 times more current than would be possible due to its physical plate size at the same frequency as the other single capacitors. Would this be proof of Eric Dollards theory that the energy is stored in the dielectric and not the plates?
