The 1 meg resistor is a LDR R1 470 ohm can be between 470 - 1k ohm Experiment with different resistance till the lights light. R3 10 ohm can be more or less depending on the brightness you want. I have used slow flashing rgb diodes for this and covered with hot glue so the color blend's to 16 color scale. My wife and kids liked the project. It's cheep and battery operated with a 18650 lipo.

Your circuit is poorly polarized, on the other hand... both transistors are necessary, 1 is enough to meet the objective you are trying to teach.

Más bien me alegra que lo entiendas querido amigo, es obvio que una buena empresa de electrónica se preocuparía por ese detalle, las grandes empresas fabricantes lo hacen, por qué no entender este detalle tan valioso. También existen otros detalles muy importantes en el diseño de cualquier circuito, uno de ellos es; Cuanto menor consumo energético tenga el circuito cumpliendo su objetivo podremos decir que es un circuito bueno y eficiente.
