I believe it was due to your ground connection in your circuit.

Still, on the EC circuit examples the rectifier circuit is working with the very same ground connection as yours. So I'm not 100% sure about my statement.

1. Ground must be connected to the other lead of the resistor, it's the reference point for voltage measurement

2. Your voltage is too low for the diode's voltage drop
