It's a timer. 
The ne555 is used in the astable mode. It generates a pulse which close the relay contacts. The duration of the half-wave high is Th = 0,7C R (green); the duration of the negative half-wave is Tl = 0,7C R (orange). The diode serves to have a duty cycle less than 50%

Non credo che l'AC source abbia un qualche senso così com'è...

È simbolico perché se avessi messo l'ampiezza dell'onda più grande e il Dc voltage più piccolo l'accendere e lo spegnere della lampada non avrebbe reso l'idea di come funziona tanto quanto lo fa per ora. Ho messo L'AC source anche per far vedere che, grazie al relè, possiamo gestire carichi grossi come motori in AC o cose varie (non tenendo conto del tempo di risposta del relè però)
