My first circuit created so many years ago in the late 70ies - had I had EveryCircuit it would have been so much easier to understand then.

The two caps have to be different to trigger the first pulse.

The caps are non standard values, the time base required for this circuit is 5 seconds. The nearest standard value capacitor is 47uF. Using this, you have two choices, either leave the lights and use 60.4K biasing resistors. Or leave the biasing resistors, and use 1 volt lamps.

Billy - I doubt non-standard values have any impact on how the circuit starts. The problem here is that these caps (and resistors) are PERFECT and there is no variation as even very expensive caps have. So you have to induce some level of difference to make it work. Setting the lamps to 1v on a 5v circuit means blown lamps.

I would not have posted the fix if I didn't research it.

Billy - pick ANY values - as long as you use the SAME values for both the resistors and the caps, reset the simulation and play start. It WILL NOT oscillate by itself. Hence my comment.
