You are using 8 mA when switch is off try 10k at base of bottom transistor, as long as voltage above .7v ish will still work and use less battery

This pulsed circuit off silicon controlled rectifier you pulse the the gate from MCU to trun load on pulse second pin to turn load off from MCU or crontrol circuit
