Simple IC-less buck converter. Many disadvantages, however a convenient choice if you need a low maintenance converter. For instance, I'm planning on building a 12V tube amp with a SMPS boost converter for the B+, and this seems a convenient option for the heaters of the tubes.

I hope you don’t mind me commenting, that you seem to be one of a very small minority that have for the past eleven years or so, constantly posted “Proper” working circuits with accompanying descriptions. Well done, excellent work, thank you. Do you have a YouTube channel? In my humble opinion, your work and explanations deserve a bigger and more appreciative audience.
