Transformer cores will be saturated with magnetism :-).

It may work, but shortly. I've tried some experiments. Connect a 9V battery to the secondary of whatever tranaformer you got while touching the primary. You will still get momentarily shocked, while the magnetic field builds up. Since the current is not alternating, the secondary will quickly stop to carry the current
