I thought amplifier is meant to amplify the signal. This is more like emitter follower. You need to have preamp before this.

Amplifiers can also amplify the current. It's an amplifier, as badly constructed as it is.

Not class a either, this is barely class b, more class c really. I wouldnt say badly constructed tho. Itd be fine for square wave, low power switching.

Forget that as an amp, the complete power is coming from the input source. The BJTs are just acting as base emitter diode. Delete the 12V supply and you will see.
