You can omit the third transistor and have the o/p from the lower transistor's emitter instead..

This solution does have full voltage swing. ~rail2rail. Sine, your proposal would loose at least 700mV per stage. Suppose you use this type of gate in a chain and loosing per stage 700mV how many of them can you concatenate?
