You must have a resistor between the Discharge pin and the voltage bias inputs (Threshold and Trigger) or otherwise the time constant is null and it cannot cycle. @KE4CPC, yes check your internal circuit and compare with this function here, maybe you see a difference and understand why its correct. Its a monoflop. thr pin is to check the voltage level when to discharge via pin 7. And pin 2 is trigger to start it all. See your internal or any other published one here on EC. A super esay thing you should immediately understand. pin 7 is an open collector output, while thr and trigger are both only inputs!!! A resistor doesn't make sense from a single out to two inputs without current draw. Nothing more to argue actually. Even without knowing a lot of internal of 555 or any other Chip, right?
