Normal operation of a 120VAC, 60Hz circuit. The lamp is the simulated load. To make a 1000V voltage "spike" tap the momentary pushbutton briefly to the DC voltage source and release to turn off. The DC voltage source will simulate a pulse or "spike". To turn the RC network on connect the SPST switch and compare the voltage spike with the network connected and disconnected. The capacitance of one or all of the branches can be increased or decreased. You can see that the brief spike will be diminished greatly as the RC network is connected
