Harbor Freight old Fly Swatter

Finally got this simulation to work, but I need help completing. Why the LED is lit dimly? Why the simulation needs to be primed with switch to raise KV level? How do I determine transformer ratio? Winding Resistance check: 0.3 0.3 & 257 ohms. 1.17H for 3rd winding. Is a ratio 29.3:1 close to being correct for these HB fly seaters? Harbor freight 2xD cell Fly Swatter. I reverse engineered the D-cell fly swatter circuit board, apparently there are many versions and revisions and configuration changes. This working circuit simulation needs to be primed, unlike the Fly swatter, by toggling the switch once or twice, the connecting again. It will then accumulate KV levels in seconds. The base and collector transformer windings read 0.3 ohms, while the third winding is 257 ohms. Design was taken directly from circuit card observations. The LED is dimly lit in simulation and if resistor is changed to lower value, would match brightness of actual circuit. When switch is pressed, a buzzing sound is heard, and zap screen provides instant spark if fly makes connection. PS. It didn’t like when I swapped out the 3Vdc source (2xD cells) for 4.1Vdc (one 18650 cell). But I installed a 5w 0.56 ohm resistor, and that seemed to allow the zapper to work correctly.

Yeah. New version just has flyback pretty much. All simulations arent exact unfortunatelly

Your voltage is low

Regarding the LED brightness, EC LED’s are set to a default of 2V and 20mA for ‘normal’ brightness so a 50 Ohm resistor would be better if you want it bright in the simulation. Modern LED’s are much brighter than earlier ones so in reality you may find the LED to be brighter than you’d want. You could change the LED default parameters if you wanted.

@Robert_Kidd Thank you, changed the default voltage. Somehow I didn’t see that option since it was listed on the left of screen, and adjustment on the right. Cool.
