The capacitor (800μF) is a component to store charge in an electric field, when you start the lamp is off, when you flip the switch on the lamp is bright, very bright, then when you flip the switch again it is still one but dim with no current from Battery's. The capacitor in this circuit is storing the charge, when it is flipped off the capacitor acts like a battery and powers the lamp, but eventually the light burns out
