The led lamp will automatically light up when the power from main 230Vac main source has been failed or there is so called blackout. The switch is for disconnecting purpose only of the main source which assumes that there is power failure. When there is a power , the led lamp will remain off while the battery back up source will be charged automatically. Try to turn off the switch of main source and the emergency light will automatically on!!!:) have fun ..:)
