Basic led lighting for drinks cabinet run on 3 AA batteries with 2 modes, always on and on when cabinet door is opened. Also has 3 LEDs on a separate switch on the bartop for light while pouring a drink I'm new to this so any improvement ideas are welcome!

Put all switches and resistors on positive side before the led. Make sure the last thing to touch ground is the load. Mostly initial standards rather than electrical characteristics, but when something doesn't work it significantly reduces trouble shooting time.

If this is going to be a permanent build, you might consider using a low voltage wall plug instead of batteries. You may have one laying around- your old cell phone's charger for instance. It would save you money and time I'm the long run..

Thanks for info on switch placement, have now decided on mains driven so looking into it and reading up before i try anything as building something mains powered/high voltage is new territory and comes with obviously greater risks if done wrong.
