So I came across some local laws requiring that the Daytime Running Lights (DRL's) be turned off while normal headlights are turned on. So I came up with this simple Circuit. SPST switch is ignition power line, which turns the DRL's on straight away, they then turn off when the SPDT switch (headlights power line) is turned on. So in the top diagram, the Right light is the DRL and the Left is the normal headlights. I have added in to show how it would work. The normal headlight power is only required to switch the relay as per the bottom diagram, this is what you use in the car

This upgrade is a good idea, but keep in mind that it is not required if the car is approved by Federal legislation as manufactured, it is only if the DRL's are an after fit that these laws can apply as the fitment and the lights are non standard.
