No guarantees this works in real life and I'm no Einstein so I don't want to calculate the power of the magnetic field generated by the output inductor. But still a funny little circuit.

It needs refining

I'm sure it does, I made it in 3 minuts or so. Do you have any suggestions?

Yes a few actually, nothing drastic just a few tweaks mostly. First of all, the capacitance of the caps is mostly correct, the larger the caps the better, but the coil is too big, aim lower (10uH for instance). Also charge the caps to as high a voltage as you can (I've done it with 300V and the blast was still not big enough). It's important that the caps are a few in parallel, because the point of the circuit is to punch through as much current as you can through the coil, so that the magnetic field rises to a maximum. Caps in parallel have a lower internal resistance and can supply the needed current.

And grab a very powerful relay, the surge current is very large, up to a hundred amps or so, and may damage a weak relay. Also use a thick wire to increase the Q factor of the coil (the lower the resistance, the more current you can juice through it)

Oh wow, thanks for the tips! I'll definitely try them out.

Yeah, the two basic ideas behind these devices is minimal resistance in the LC circuit, so that maximum current can flow through the coil, and a low impedance for the coil, so that the rising edge of the current (thus magnetic field) is abrupt.
