Hey, I am learning about the transistors too, and what I have discovered is that in some cases it matters where you connect the load, to emitter or to collector. See more in this example: http://everycircuit.com/circuit/5213370886914048 . I hope it is going to be helpful.

Placed into emitter path does cause negative feedback and works as voltage follower or impedance converter also this is called common collector. Newbies love this topology for some reasons. Anyway, check the common emitter as switch much better and newbies are afraid about this topology, i dont know why.
