A four diode bridge rectifier example. A voltage-controlled voltage source is used to supply the input waveform into the rectifier; this is done so that the input waveform can be plotted with reference to ground.

And why not connect a voltmeter in parallel with the AC voltage source?

Karsten, that's a good point. I'm relatively new to this platform and didn't notice that you could do that.
