Short Circuits Project 1

I am totally new to this.. Trying to draw circuit diagram for "Short Circuits" project 1 before I build the kit. I think I have the wiring correct except capacitor should be 4.7uF RBLL electrolytic and diode should be 1N4004, are there specific parts? Not sure why current is not going around the circuit correctly. Any tips appreciated.

Main problem here is that there is no connection between 555 ground pin and the actual ground. The wires do cross but are not connected.

Also, if you adjust timebase to (say) 1 second it will flash more obviously.

The diode at top right doesn’t serve any purpose and just means the 555 is getting 0.7V less voltage.

Thanks Robert. I have fixed the ground. The top right diode is the one that is 1n4004 in the kit. Not sure where timebase is. Any idea why the current is not going through both LED's? I am definitely missing something

If I change the 100k resistor to 1k it works. I'll build the kit tomorrow and see how it goes.

In EveryCircuit you cannot choose diode types (1N4001, 1N914 etc.) but you do have control over some of the parameters of the diode. To see these touch diode of interest to highlight it, then touch spanner icon and a menu will appear for the diode parameters you have control over. Touch the parameter you wish to adjust then use the ‘wheel’ to choose the value you want. This works with all component types.

The timebase is the clock icon.

The current isn’t going through both LED’s at the same time because they will flash alternately. If you change the timebase as discussed the flashing rate will allow you to see alternate flashing and current flow will be through both, but not at the same time.

Finally, both your LED’s are green. If you select one of them, then touch spanner icon you will be able to change the LED colour.

If you change the LED resistors from 1k to 360 Ohms the LED’s will be brighter. We usually set LED current to 20mA in this simulator.

Any problems just ask. It takes a while to get used to.

@Matek666. You might look through the Example section for more ideas on how the app works
