this irfp450 MOSFET has a gate capacitance of around 2200pf.  that means that a high impedance drive signal is going to take several μsec to charge the gate and turn the fet on completely.

My first ever SMPS for a uni project had some serious issues because of this, even though it was only 30kHz. Always read your mosfet datasheets, kids.
