The Smith trigger is a basic circuit to avoid unstable digital output signal, for example, when the two inputs of an Op Amp are almost the same, the noise caused by electromagnetic field on the atmosfere can cause high and low fake signals. These signals can be removed by adding some hysteresis. The Smith trigger do that, and this is a basic circuit.
