Sorry but there is no such thing as free energy or perpetual motion. This has been proven and it violates the first two laws( laws not suggestions) of thermodynamics. Basically energy can neither be created or destroyed. In a perfect heat engine know as a Carnot engine, heat in=heat out. In this instance you are able to extract all the power put in, but this is a hypothetical situation and doesn't exist. Since there is a lot of energy lost to over come friction, inertia and also heat lost to heating up parts, and exhaust(which as long as it's hotter than ambient air temp there is still energy that could be extracted). This perfect system where heat in=heat out doesn't even exist, so how could a system where heat in=(anything greater than input heat)heat out exist? So how does this work in this circuit? Because you're feeding voltage into the 555 then it is outputting a voltage, and you are taking that voltage and the power supply voltage and hooking them together so it's acting as two power supplies, not free energy.

I'm pretty sure psteichen meant this as a joke, but great explanation of why this ain't possible justinmh!

I was of course being sarcastic, but I was also hoping someone could explain why the 555 is creating power in the simulation (which is of course impossible).

Sorry, I had just had this conversation with someone, so it was fresh on my mind... I saw this and didn't pick up on the sarcasm...
