The transistor is 1 or 2 diodes, effectively. Depending on it's connection. So, not quite as diode free as you may have thought.

Faceblast, you can change the configs accordingly. Uncle, still, here transistor behaves as a switch, not as a diode.

in this case you are controlling the transistor in such a way that it has the same characteristics of a diode
